French European territory is part of the “Schengen Area”. This area also includes the territory of other European Union countries or associated countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

The purpose of the Schengen agreement and its implementing convention is to set up an area of free circulation, without border controls or internal borders between the member states.

The implementing convention of the Schengen agreement has instituted a uniform visa for all member countries of the Schengen Convention, issued for 90-day maximum stays over six-month periods.
