Document or photocopy missing = incomplete file = high risk of visa refusal.

Notice : If you have a french resident card or a french long stay visa, or if you have the citizenship of one of the following country and you have a "visa de circulation" delivered from a french consulat, you don’t need any short stay visa : Bahrein, Bielorussia, China, India, Koweit, Oman, Qatar, Russia, South Africa, Ukraina, United Arab Emirates.

Long stay visa

  • One identification photo, in colour, recent (less than three months), original, in format 35 mm X 45 mm with a clear and uniform background;
  • Original passport (and copy of your passport’s identification page). The passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the end of the stay. The visa is validated by a self-adhesive label that will be affixed to one of the pages of the passport;
  • Non Canadian citizens : evidence of your regular status in Canada ;
    • a permanent resident card (photocopy must be recto-verso),
      • IMM 1000 not accepted.
    • or a study permit along with a valid Canadian visa (to ensure the return to Canada),
    • or a work permit along with a valid Canadian visa,
    • or a Canadian visitor’s visa if the holder prove residence over three consecutive months in Canada.
  • Supporting evidence of revenue allowing a stay in New Caledonia without working (future revenue of the applicant- bank confirmation – living accommodations);
  • Evidence of an address in New Caledonia;
  • Evidence of applicant’s medical coverage: the document which confirms social security during applicant’s stay in France : letter from the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec – RAMQ (Quebec Health Insurance Board) covering stays outside Quebec (or other provincial insurance) together with Travel Insurance covering repatriation costs for medical reasons, emergency medical and hospital care valid for the duration of the stay. Contact your Insurer and file a document clearly outlining such coverage;
  • Extract of police record delivered by a competent authority of the country of origin;


The Consulate reserves the right to claim additional supporting evidence. Filing the documents does not systematically guarantee issuance of a visa. You should not leave your present job, sell your property or commit yourself in any way before receiving your visa.

Fees and timeframes

File costs (non-refundable) : the value of €99 in Canadian currency for long-stay visa, payable only by debit card, cash or money orders (exact amount) payable to consulat de France à Montréal.

Attention, you must schedule an appointment in order to submit your application on the Consulate’s website : "Rendez-vous" (in the "Prendre rendez-vous" tab).

Only those persons having their notification to attend will be admitted to the Consulate offices. For security reasons, please be on time.

Before attending, please make sure you bring all the documents indicated on the Consulate Web site required for the issuance of the requested visa.

You must provide all original documents, as well as one photocopy of each document.

To avoid penalizing other applicants, if you must cancel your appointment you are strongly requested to do so via the Consulate’s website : "Rendez-vous" (in the "Revoir son rendez-vous" tab).
