Visa for medical interns (doctors carrying out an internship) [fr]

You are traveling to France for specialized medical training (“training as an intern”). The long-stay visa or type D visa grants authorization to extend your stay in France beyond 90 days.

For all visa applications, it is necessary to go through the Centre des études en France before scheduling an appointment with the visa department.

This procedure applies :

  • to the “faisant fonction d’interne” (FFI): physicians or pharmacists registered in France for specialized training (“formation spécialisée”) or “formation spécialisée approfondie” (AFS and AFS) and DFMS and DFMSA as of November 1st, 2010;
  • laureates of the Foreign Interns examination;
  • Interns in Medicine and Pharmacy at public and private hospitals.

For all “student trainee” visa applications, because the training is within the scope of your studies, the agreement must be certified by Cultural Services prior to your visa application.
